Proper Belt Geometry
The bar provides dedicated shoulder-harness mounting locations behind the driver and passenger rather than forcing the belts into whatever geometry happens to be convenient.
Brey-Krause has been our gold standard for Corvette harness mounting since we opened the doors. We've handled a lot of bars over the years. There are plenty that cost less. There aren't many we'd want behind us when something goes seriously wrong.
Pick one up and it becomes pretty obvious where the money and weight went. This isn't a decorative tube whose only job is to keep the shoulder belts from sliding sideways.
A true harness mounting structure has to carry the loads transferred through the belts during an impact. That's a very different job from simply guiding the webbing behind the seat.
There are cheaper bars we could put on the website and make a few bucks on. We don't. Brey-Krause is the bar we'd install in our own Corvette, so it's the one we're comfortable selling to you.
The R-1125 properly locates and supports the racing shoulder harnesses relative to the driver while providing a tested structural mounting point for the loads those belts can generate.
The bar provides dedicated shoulder-harness mounting locations behind the driver and passenger rather than forcing the belts into whatever geometry happens to be convenient.
Integrated harness guides reduce lateral movement of the shoulder straps under heavy braking and cornering so the belts stay where they're supposed to be.
The three-position shoulder-harness layout allows the R-1125 to work with factory seating—including the low harness openings in the Competition seat—as well as properly installed aftermarket seats.
This is one of the things that makes the R-1125 particularly interesting. Brey-Krause didn't simply hang the structure from the factory seat-belt bolts and call it a day.
The R-1125 mounting system transfers the shoulder-belt load directly into the C7's factory roll hoop. The factory seat-belt bolts are still used, but primarily to locate the mounting system and prevent rotation.
That creates a considerably stronger and more stable structure than relying on the seat-belt bolts alone.
The shoulder-harness openings in Chevrolet's C7 Competition seats are substantially lower than many aftermarket racing seats. Brey-Krause measured roughly 21 inches from the seat bottom on the GM Competition seat versus approximately 25 inches on the Recaro seat they used for comparison.
Rather than design the bar around one seating position and hope for the best, BK built three separate shoulder-harness mounting heights into the R-1125.
All three mounting positions were independently tested to the same harness-anchor load requirements.
Brey-Krause part number R-1125 is designed for C7 Corvette Coupe models, including the C7 Z06 Coupe.
Installation requires cutting a slot in the plastic sail panel on each side where the harness bar passes through. If you'd rather preserve the original panels, current Brey-Krause documentation lists GM replacement panels 23432694 for the driver side and 23432695 for the passenger side.
The R-1125 can be installed while retaining use of the factory three-point seat belt, which makes a lot of sense on a dual-purpose street and track car.
The R-1125 provides the shoulder-harness mounting structure. For lap-belt mounting, Brey-Krause specifies its R-9160 lap-belt mounting kit.
Installation uses the factory B-pillar mounting structure and does not require drilling new chassis holes, but there is a fair amount of trim removal involved.
The seats come out, the rear and B-pillar trim comes apart, the mounting brackets are installed, and the sail panels are trimmed to allow the bar to pass through.
Brey-Krause specifically states that proper installation of restraint hardware is critical and recommends installation by a professional shop.
The official seven-page Brey-Krause PDF includes seat and trim removal, mounting-bracket installation, bar alignment, B-pillar trimming guidance, replacement sail-panel part numbers and installation photos.
