Our Corvette monoball program has given us the opportunity to install, remove, press, inspect, and swear at a fairly impressive collection of replacement ball joints.
For the C5 and C6 upper position, we keep coming back to the same one: the 45D0128.
At some point, trying to buy these through the normal supply chain became ridiculous. Dealers were showing them discontinued, remaining inventory was scarce, and prices on the few available pieces were heading into comedy territory.
We needed them by the hundred for our own control-arm work, so "there's one left somewhere for $178" was not especially helpful.
After a considerable amount of supplier detective work, we tracked down the Korean manufacturer that has produced the 45D0128 for years and began sourcing them directly.
Same joint we've trusted. Just without the increasingly stupid hunt to find one.
We don't stock the 45D0128 because somebody gave us a catalog and told us it was premium. We stock it because years of rebuilding Corvette control arms have given us plenty of opportunities to compare the available alternatives.
This is the upper ball joint we prefer to install in our own C5 and C6 control-arm assemblies, so it's the one we're comfortable selling to you.
The 45D0128 fits both the front and rear upper spindle locations on all C5 and C6 Corvettes from 1997 through 2013. There is no separate front/rear part number and no different upper ball joint between the two generations.
No elaborate engineering story required. We needed a reliable C5/C6 upper ball joint for our own work, found the source, and bought enough that you shouldn't have to call twelve dealerships looking for one.
