The Brey-Krause R-1131 is the C8 Convertible harness bar we trust enough to sell. Tested as a true shoulder-harness mounting structure—not just a guide bar—it uses reinforced 304 stainless construction, factory mounting points, retains the stock 3-point belt and full seat travel, and gives properly positioned 4-, 5-, or 6-point harnesses a serious foundation.

C8 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE · BREY-KRAUSE R-1131

A HARNESS BAR IS NOT THE PLACE TO SHOP BY PRICE.

Brey-Krause has been our gold standard for Corvette harness mounting since we opened the doors. We've handled a lot of bars over the years. There are plenty that cost less. There aren't many we'd want behind us when something goes seriously wrong.

WHY BREY-KRAUSE

BEEFY+HEAVY+EXPENSIVE= GOOD.

Pick one up and it becomes pretty obvious where the money and weight went. This isn't a decorative tube whose only job is to keep the shoulder belts from sliding sideways.

A true harness mounting structure has to carry the loads transferred through the belts during an impact. That's a very different job from simply guiding the webbing behind the seat.

There are cheaper bars we could put on the website and make a few bucks on. We don't. Brey-Krause is the bar we'd install in our own Corvette, so it's the one we're comfortable selling to you.

When the product is part of the restraint system keeping you in the car, “good enough” isn't a specification we're interested in.
WHAT THE BAR ACTUALLY DOES

PUT THE SHOULDER BELTS WHERE THEY BELONG.

Proper shoulder-harness geometry matters. The R-1131 provides a strong, correctly located attachment structure behind the driver and passenger while preserving the usability of the C8 Convertible.

SHOULDER HARNESS POSITION

Proper Belt Geometry

The bar locates and supports the shoulder belts relative to the occupants, providing the dedicated rear mounting structure required for multi-point restraints.

HARNESS GUIDES

Keep The Belts In Position

Integrated guides control lateral belt movement during heavy braking and cornering so the shoulder straps stay where they're supposed to be.

STREET + TRACK PRACTICALITY

Doesn't Ruin The Car

The R-1131 retains the factory 3-point seat belt and does not limit seat travel, so installing proper track restraints doesn't mean giving up the normal usability of the car.

MORE THAN A GUIDE BAR

BUILT TO CARRY HARNESS LOADS.

Brey-Krause independently tested the C8 harness mount using the available mounting locations against the type of forces specified for motor-vehicle seat-belt anchorages.

Their testing showed that the packaging constraints of the C8 demanded more than a basic single-wall tube. The resulting design uses increased tubing thickness along with a proprietary internal reinforcement structure inside the mandrel-bent bar.

  • Type 304 stainless-steel construction
  • Proprietary internal reinforcement structure
  • Increased tubing thickness for harness-anchor loads
  • Mandrel-bent construction
  • Durable satin-black powder-coated finish
  • Uses existing factory mounting locations
Independently tested for seat-belt-anchor loading requirements. Brey-Krause references NHTSA / DOT and SAE J385 Rev. MAR 95 Motor Vehicle Seat Belt Anchorages – Performance Requirements.

THIS BAR FITS

C8 Corvette Convertible

This is Brey-Krause part number R-1131 and is specifically designed for the C8 Corvette Convertible. The Coupe uses the visually similar R-1130. The two bars are not interchangeable.

TRIM MODIFICATION REQUIRED

The B-Pillar Sail Panels Need Slots

Installation requires trimming a slot in the plastic sail panel on each side where the bar passes through. No other interior panels require permanent modification. Replacement sail panels can be purchased from GM if you'd rather preserve your originals.

OEM BELT

Factory 3-Point Still Works

The bar does not prevent use of the stock three-point seat belt, making it possible to retain the normal street restraint system when the racing harness isn't being used.

SEAT POSITION

Full Seat Travel Retained

The R-1131 is packaged behind the seats without restricting normal seat travel—particularly important if the car still sees regular street use or has multiple drivers.

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

FACTORY MOUNTING POINTS. SOME INTERIOR DISASSEMBLY.

The bar attaches at the factory seat-belt-retractor mounting locations. Removing the seats isn't strictly required, but Brey-Krause recommends it because it makes the installation considerably easier.

Because this is restraint-system hardware, Brey-Krause recommends professional installation by a shop familiar with motorsport safety equipment.

  1. Remove or move the driver and passenger seats for access and disconnect the battery before unplugging the seat electrical connections.
  2. Remove the required rear interior trim and B-pillar panels to access the factory seat-belt retractors.
  3. Remove the retractors and locate them onto the mounting brackets incorporated into the R-1131.
  4. Install the harness bar using the factory mounting locations and torque the hardware to the applicable factory specification.
  5. Trim the B-pillar sail panels using the Brey-Krause template, reinstall the panels and complete final assembly.

THE BAR WE'D PUT IN OUR OWN CAR.

There are cheaper ways to hang shoulder harnesses behind a C8 seat. That's not the standard we're interested in. If we're selling you a piece of the restraint system, we'd rather sell you the one we'd trust ourselves.
